Cain (version locale) & Abel (version distante en service) offre une série d'outils d'attaque et diagnostic en une seule installation sous Windows. Il permet de retrouver facilement des mots de passe en écoutant le réseau, de casser des mot de passe par dictionnaire, en Brute-Force ou attaque de cryptanalyse, enregistrer des conversations VOIP, décoder des mots de passe brouillés (dont les type 7 Cisco), de casser des clés WEP, de révéler les mot de passe cachés des boîtes Windows, de retrouver des mots de passe caché, d'analyser des protocoles de routage.
